A burning pile of roadside trash
Fire fighters doused a flaming mountain of trash on a rural roadside this afternoon.
A fire truck and a tanker responded to the emergency call at 1.30pm and drove to the corner of Te Kowhai and Burbush roads, northwest of Hamilton.
A 20 metre by 5 metre mound of apparent household refuse had been dumped on the roadside and had caught alight.
A witness at the scene said the rubbish was nearly three metres tall at its highest point.
It's unclear what circumstances led to the trash being dumped on the edge of a public road.
Waste Management is taking care of the mess.
