'I think I stabbed him in the face'
Murder-accused's friend takes the standBELINDA FEEK
A teenager on trial for murder told a friend "f*** I think I stabbed someone last night" before showing him a bloody knife, a Hamilton court has heard.
Israel Kaihau, 19, is accused of fatally stabbing Kiwi expat Robert Murray Wilkinson in the head on New Year's Day in Waihi Beach this year.
Kaihau is alleged to have plunged a knife into Wilkinson's skull and through his brain after being asked to leave where he and wife Luise Wilkinson were staying.
Today in Hamilton's High Court Kaihau's friend Damien Martin, 18, took the witness stand and said he only bumped into Kaihau once on New Year's Eve.
During questioning by Kaihau's lawyer, Paul Mabey QC , Mr Martin said he caught up with Kaihau the next day and that's when Kaihau said, "f***, I think I stabbed someone last night".
He went on to say "I don't know who it was, I think I stabbed him in the face".
Mr Martin said he saw the knife, a pocket knife with a blade about 10cm long, at Kaihau's house.
He noticed that it had "some sticky stuff" on the tip, which was blood.
Mr Martin then told Kaihau that Mr Wilkinson's death was "all over the news", with Kaihau replying that he knew.
Mr Martin told crown prosecutor Ross Douch he and Kaihau talked about Mr Wilkinson's killing but he "can't really remember" what was said.
The trial, before Justice Robert Dobson, continues
