Ongarue murder-accused pleads not guilty
An Ongarue shearer charged with the murder of a horseman near Taumarunui has been further remanded in custody.
Benjamin Wikaira, 57, appeared in the High Court in Hamilton today and pleaded not guilty to murdering Nicora Wikaira, a man understood to be his brother.
Nicora Wikaira's body was found buried in a shallow grave after he was shot and killed at a property in Ongarue, 23 kilometres north of Taumarunui.
Wikaira was further remanded in custody by Justice Mary Peters for a psychiatrist's report to be finalised.
He will reappear in two weeks.
