State Highway 29 has reopened but delays are to be expected after a truck and trailer jackknifed and slid across the entrance to a bridge.
The transport agency said the road is open but lengthy delays are still expected and alternate route of State Highway 24 and Te Poi Rd should be used.
Highway patrol officer Constable Will Hamilton said the driver was heading east from Te Poi when his trailer tipped for "some unknown reason" shortly before 10am.
The truck, carrying aggregate, slid for about 50m before coming to rest across the entrance to the Waiomou Stream bridge, about 2.5km from Te Poi.
It was raining lightly at the time of the accident. Mr Hamilton said the driver was "absolutely fine" and was assisting with inquiries.
The road was closed either side of the accident and diversions are in place. It took several hours for heavy haulage to remove the truck, Mr Hamilton said.
