Fire fighters rescue woman trapped by flood waters
Fire fighters rescued a woman in distress this afternoon after her car was trapped in rising flood waters near Whitianga.
Heavy rain has been hammering the Coromandel and it apparently breached the Tairua Whitianga Rd halfway between the airport and the 309 Rd just after noon and was high enough to strand a vehicle.
The woman made the emergency call from the driver's seat, fire service communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said.
Rescue crews from Whitianga Volunteer Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene where they drove into the flood in a four wheel drive and whisked the woman out of harms way to higher ground.
