Woman's ex-partner found guilty of assualt
A Hamilton man has been found guilty of burning his former partner's stomach with a hot iron, as well as assaulting and raping her.
A jury of seven women and five men found the man guilty of injuring with intent to injure relating to the iron incident in the Hamilton District Court on Thursday.
The accused, in his early 20s, was also found guilty on five counts of assaulting his former partner and one charge each of threatening to cause greivous bodily harm, and rape.
He was found not guilty on an initial charge of injuring with intent to cause greivous bodily harm relating to the iron incident and one charge of kidnapping.
The man held a hot iron on his former partner's stomach during an argument in August last year.
The woman, also in her early 20s, described the pain as "excruciating" and said the heat caused her skin to peel.
The man has been remanded in custody and will reappear for sentencing on January 29.
