A severe weather watch has been issued for Waikato's top holiday destination.
Metservice says a localised band of rain could bring ''significant rainfall'' to the southern parts of Coromandel tonight.
The deluge is expected to ease Monday afternoon.
It is possible that the rainfall level will reach warning criteria - 70 to 90mm within a 12 hour period - overnight Sunday and Monday morning.
However, there is still some uncertainty associated with the exact location of the rain band and the intensity of the downpour.
Forecasters will continue to monitor the situation.
