A car crashed into a power pole on the outskirts of Hamilton this morning causing live powerlines to dangle over the road.

Emergency services closed Marshmeadow Rd at Newstead to heavy traffic following the incident that occurred about 7.20am, District Shift Manager, Senior Sergeant Rupert Friend said.

The driver walked away from the crash unscathed, he said.

Once Wel Networks arrived on scene it was a quick job to isolate the lines and cut them loose.

Why do you think Hamilton's 150th anniversary ball failed to attract interest?

Too elitist

Ticket prices were too high

A gala ball is an outdated celebration

I thought it was a great idea

I don't care about the city's 150th celebrations

I didn't know about it
