Controversial Hamilton East synthetic cannabis dealer U njoY has had its door glued shut, marbles hurled at its windows and unruly mobs lingering outside waiting for it open.

The Grey St shop has been heavily criticised by members of the community for the anti-social segment of society that it attracts and the dangerous products it sells.

Hamilton police have been responding to complaints from business owners and shoppers on a daily basis.

On Sunday, the store didn't open on time and district shift manager, Senior Sergeant Rupert Friend, said they took two calls from people complaining about the unruly crowd of 20 people waiting for it to open.

"Unfortunately, that's the general sort of disorder complaints we're getting because of that shop at the moment," Mr Friend said.

"We've been getting at least one to two complaints a day about behaviour of people hanging around outside that shop or nearby, smoking what is thought to be synthetic cannabis from that shop."

Mr Friend said shopkeepers and shoppers were making complaints.

They relate mainly to disorder but "a number of people" have complained about begging and intimidation.

Police foot patrols have been increased in the area in response.

Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley also said U njoY's door had been glued shut and marbles thrown at the windows.

He said police have met with the shop's landlord and the proprietor, who has been co-operative.

The side windows of U njoY were yesterday boarded up.
