Man charged after Claudelands air rifles buttocks shooting

A man has been charged following the shooting of a man in the buttocks with an air rifle while he stood outside a Hamilton Pizza Hut.

The man, 18, was arrested by police on Christmas Day at a house on Grey St. An air rifle with a scope and stand and pellets were found in the search.

The victim was talking to a friend outside the Claudelands Pizza Hut franchise about 7.45pm on Christmas Day when he was shot once, police said.

He did not require any medical attention and later identified for police a house on Grey St where he believed the shot had come from.

The man as been arrested and charged with this incident and another, similar incident in the area at about the same time on Christmas Eve.

It is understood that incident relates to a 31-year-old Hamilton man who was shot once in the lower back outside the same Pizza Hut shop about 7pm.

The man was bailed to appear in the Hamilton District Court in early January, 2014.
