A young child has been killed in a single-vehicle road crash south of Taumarunui.
About 1:15pm today emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 4 between Owhango and National Park.
The vehicle was travelling north at the time and initial reports are the vehicle crossed over the centre line and crashed, Inspector Marty Parker of the NZ Police Central Communications Centre said.
There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time, one of which was the child, he said.
Specialist police units are at the scene conducting scene examination.
