An undercover police sting at a popular Coromandel holiday spot has unmasked what could be a serial flasher.
On Sunday afternoon a man exposed himself to two young women near Lonely Beach, Sergeant Brendon Bland, of the Cooks Beach Public Safety Team, said.
Police interviewed the women and yesterday put staff in the area to appear as if they were innocent holiday makers enjoying summer at the beach.
"Subsequently we apprehended a 41-year-old local man who we are now speaking to in relation to this and a number of similar historic complaints."
Bland said yesterday's arrest was a good example of how the public and police can work together to prevent crime and he urged anyone who has information on similar types of offending in the area to contact the Whitianga Police on 07 858 6200.
