Body found on walking track

A police search and rescue team has located a body on a bush track in the Coromandel, police say.

It is believed to be a man aged in his 40s, Inspector Lou Alofa said.

The team was sent into the area of bush after it was reported that a body had been found on a walking track shortly after midday.

A rescue helicopter is preparing to land and take the body to hospital, Alofa said.

Police spokesman Inspector Ian Brooker said it was believed to be in the Broken Hills Recreation Area, about 20 kilometres south of Tairua.

He said the caller mentioned Collins Drive and Puketui Road, which are both entrances to popular walking tracks.
