Waikato looks set to revel in balmy weather for the remainder of summer, according to scientists.
New data released by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) shows the North Island, including Waikato, is likely to experience above average temperatures over the next three months.
Rainfall is expected to be normal or above normal for January to March in th region, while soil moisture levels and river flows are predicted to be in the near normal range, the report said.
Lower than normal pressures are expected in the Tasman Sea and over the north of New Zealand. Higher than normal pressures are forecast to the southeast of the country.
As a result, January to February is predicted to be dominated by a weak northeasterly flow.
