A convicted drug trafficker turned church pastor has pulled out of the Parachute Christian music festival for "family reasons".

Christian Hosoi, who is known as Christ, was due to preach at the Mystery Creek Events Centre festival during the weekend of January 24 and 26 but Parachute spokesman Luke Oram said he had to pull out.

Mr Oram could not give any more details.

Hosoi, an outreach pastor at the Sanctuary church in Huntington Beach, California, was a professional skateboarder when he was caught trafficking drugs in 2000 and imprisoned.

Brian Sumner, also a former professional skater turned pastor, is coming to Parachute in Mr Hosoi's place.
