Diversion for Hamilton cop after crash
A Hamilton policeman has been given diversion after being charged with careless driving after a crash in Hamilton.
Constable Jason Lawrence Pope, 37, was on duty and just been informed of a job to attend to so he began performing a u-turn when he had a minor collision with another vehicle on Cambridge Rd, Hamilton, on July 9 last year.
Pope was formerly based in the Te Awamutu area and at times had the role of acting sergeant.
Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley said an internal investigation was underway but was likely to mirror the criminal proceedings.
"The court proceedings are offering a guide to the outcome of the internal proceedings, but they are still to be determined," he said.
Pope was not present in Hamilton District Court when diversion was granted on Wednesday.
