Hamilton Police have launched a homicide inquiry after a fatal assault in Chartwell this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a Winstone Ave address shortly before 2pm, district crime manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall, of the Waikato CIB said.
"Ambulance staff were treating a 38-year-old man at the address for significant injuries however despite their efforts the victim died at the scene, '' Mr Keall said.
Five marked police cars and three unmarked cars were outside the address when the Waikato Times arrived.
The crime scene, which was cordoned off, was down a long driveway which backed onto Porritt Park.
A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said a woman in her 40s lived at the house with several teenagers.
Another man and woman, along with two little girls, were frequently at the property also, the neighbour said.
Police would like to hear from anyone in the area of Winstone Ave, Chartwell between 1pm and 2pm who may have seen or noticed something suspicious.
