Hamilton has been named as one of the most popular school holiday destinations according to hotel booking site Wotif.co.nz.
New Zealand Product Manager, Renee Piggott, said although Auckland and Wellington remain the top booked destinations in New Zealand, Hamilton also proved popular over the holidays rising 11 per cent on the same time last year.
That placed it in the top ten destinations in eight place.
Taupo also saw a similar trend - placing sixth - though Rotorua saw the biggest increase with a 15 per cent rise in bookings.
"With all that Rotorua offers families, it is no surprise it has proven popular over the school holidays," she said.
"From relaxing in hot pools, mountain biking, fishing and ziplining through native forest, there is something for all ages in Rotorua," Ms Piggott said.
Ms Piggott said the top three South Island destinations were consistent with last year's summer holidays, while Nelson made tenth place.
"Queenstown, Christchurch and Dunedin continue to be popular destinations and with visitors making the most of this year's beautiful weather it is no wonder the coastal city of Nelson returned to its number ten spot," she said.
"This coastal trend continued across the country with smaller areas showing some healthy increases. Rises in bookings in Coromandel Peninsula (24%), Mount Maunganui (23%), Gisborne (15%), Greymouth (10%) and Blenheim (8%) all show that Kiwis still love a beach holiday.''
