A Whangamata man is in hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted overnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley of Waikato CIB said police were called to the Achilles Ave house in Whangamata about 1.30am by Ambulance staff who treated the man after the assault.
The 47-year-old man was then flown to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries to his head. He is currently in a stable condition.
A scene guard is in place and a scene examination is taking place at the house today.
Mr Pitkethley said detectives wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in or around Achilles Ave between 11pm and 2am.
"We have spoken to several members of the public already and are very grateful for their assistance. We are also seeking to locate and speak to a flatmate believed to be present at the address at the time of the assault."
