Police are on the hunt for a man wanted in relation to the brutal Waitangi Day beating of a 47-year-old man who suffered serious injuries.
Eastern Waikato Police are looking for 42-year-old, Whanagamata man Shane James Old, in relation to the incident.
Detective Simon Everson of the Waihi CIB said the male victim sustained serious head injuries and was flown from Whanagamata to Waikato Hospital.
"Since then investigators have spoken to several members of the public and are very grateful for their assistance but we believe Old may be able to give us a clearer picture of what has occurred."
Police described Old as a Maori man of medium build and about 185cm tall, who had contacts throughout the Coromandel.
Anyone who has information on Old's whereabouts is asked to contact Mr Everson at the Waihi Police Station on 07 8633711.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the independent organisation, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
