Last week, Detective Inspector Craig Bolton of the Counties Manukau Police and his six-man investigative team were called to Pukekohe to investigate 30 suspicious fires since October 2013. They interviewed five people, of which four were arrested and charged.

A youth, 18, was charged with arson and seven counts of wilful damage, a 17-year-old youth was charged with four counts of wilful damage, a boy, 16, was charged with one count of arson and five counts of wilful damage and another boy, 16, was charged with one count of wilful damage.

The arson charges relate to a fire at Pukekohe Hill School on January 28, which caused $15,000 damage to its senior playground.

The 17 and 18-year-olds will appear in Pukekohe District Court this week and the 16-year-olds have been referred to Youth Aid.
