Ruth and Bob Whiting plan to spend a bit more time in bed on Thursday mornings from now on.
The couple have been organising the Melville Bowling and Cards Club for the past 15 years but have decided to call it a day. As no one else had come forward to take over the job, yesterday was probably the end of things.
Founded in 1952, the club has a current membership of about 14 and meets in the Melville Hall.
Mrs Whiting said the group was social and non-competitive. "The experience has been wonderful. You never hear a cross word. Everyone is brilliant company. But no one wants to take up organising it."
Mrs Whiting said the club had purchased most of the equipment, which would be stored at the city council-owned facility in the meantime.
