Good spotting by a sharp-eyed citizen in Taupo landed a suspected fraudster in court.

Police last week issued a national appeal to locate Tony Ashley Gorrie, 44, ''in relation to prolific fraud offending against backpackers and accommodation providers nationwide'' and more recently in the Taupo and Rotorua areas.

On Thursday night a member of public saw someone who fitted his description in Taupo and he was arrested overnight.

He appeared in court yesterday facing a number of burglary and fraud charges.
