One person has been seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a car on Kereone Road, near Morrinsville.
The head-on crash happened around 9.40am.
Details of what caused the accident on the straight stretch of road, which leads to Matamata, remain unclear.
The elderly driver of the red hatchback car had to be cut out of the vehicle and has been flown to Waikato Hospital by the Westpac Air Ambulance in a serious condition, Sergeant Dean Kaio of the Morrinsville police said.
The driver of the truck is shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Meanwhile a crash on Hamilton's Cobham Dr this afternoon caused traffic chaos.
Fire Service communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said one person was seriously injured in the crash when a car hit a pole and they were taken to Waikato Hospital for treatment.
The crash, around 1.30pm, caused traffic to back-up along Cobham Dr and Normandy Ave, with city-bound traffic being diverted down Grey St.
