A Hamilton takeaways shop faces a massive clean up after an elderly woman drove her vehicle through the store's front.

Police Senior Sergeant Ray Malcomson said the crash happened about 10.05am this morning on Ohaupo Rd, on the corner of Urlich Ave.

Officers were still investigating the cause of the incident.

The driver was treated at a nearby medical centre but the nature of her injuries were not yet known.

Mr Malcomson said he couldn't confirm the driver's age or whether she was disabled. He had received no reports of anyone else being injured.

A  Glenview Takeaways staff member declined to talk to the Waikato Times, citing language difficulties, but confirmed the driver was an elderly woman.
