A man who died after the tractor he was driving crashed down a bank has been named.
Justin Erni, 28, of Taumarunui crashed around 10am on Ongarue-Waimiha Road near the outskirts of the Ongarue village yesterday.
Police said Erni was towing a haymaking implement at the time.
The tractor ended up down a bank and resting on some railway tracks.There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance and police staff.
Police said Erni drove for a local agricultural company.
The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the crash along with the Police Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit and WorkSafe New Zealand.
In due course the matter will be referred to the Coroner.
