A police call out in Hamilton has ended without incident.

Senior Sergeant Peter Van de Wetering said two officers were called to Albert St in Hamilton East where the man, 19, was seen with a BB gun.

The street was cordoned off and the armed offenders squad called in. The man had threatened to hurt himself.

Van de Wetering said the incident ended "peacefully" after a call to the man was made by an officer and he gave himself up.
