Letter - Let's keep the pools open

Such a shame to see the Hamilton City Council determined to close the Hamilton Municipal Pools at the end of March. These pools are an iconic part of Hamilton's heritage and as they are a part of Hamilton's past they also need to be a part of our present and future.
They could be seen as complementing the more modern Gallagher and Water World Pools. They are centrally located, quiet, unhurried, family friendly, hoon-free and cater for keen but not necessarily elite swimmers. My wife and I regularly use the main pool and enjoy the social contact with other swimmers and staff along with the benefits of a safe recreational activity.
If the pools close we will lose something quite unique to our city. Keeping the pools open needs to be part of sound strategic planning that considers a wide range of factors.
