I write in response to a letter ("Atrium not needed", June 27) about the atrium at Waikato Hospital. My husband was a patient and very ill in Waikato Hospital earlier this year. I found the atrium a really restful and peaceful place to sit, while staff attended to my husband.

A visitor from Auckland also commented that it was a credit to the hospital. Thanks also to the caring staff on the cancer ward. They do a wonderful job.
