Cambridge driver Nick Ross is aiming high in the second round of the BNTV8 motorsport series at Ruapuna this weekend.

Ross finished outside the top 10 in the opening round at Pukekohe but was still competitive and is expecting better returns down south.

In the qualifying session before the shoot-out at Pukekohe there was just one second difference between the lap times of the top 14 cars which included Ross.

With new engineer Mike Anderson on board, the team head to Christchurch with Ross aiming to improve his lap times, through Anderson's help, and race results through the season in a continuing progression up the standings in the close-fought series.

At Pukekohe, Ross was 11th twice and 13th in the other race.

"The car is only going to get better through the season, and as Mike and I get to know each other we are only going to get quicker and quicker," Ross said.

He knows he's capable of top-10 placings and does not rule out the possibility of a race win this weekend.

"A race win would be great."

The Concept Motorsport driver believes the split-second time differences will again be repeated at the Powerbuilt International Raceway at Ruapuna.

"When you look at the times from Pukekohe the other weekend, there were 18 people who could have quite easily qualified inside the top 10 and I see no reason why it won't be as close again when we hit Ruapuna," Ross said.

"I'm looking forward to it so bring it on and let's go racing."

Ross headed to Christchurch on Wednesday for the first of three consecutive South Island rounds.

Practice and qualification sessions for round two will be held tomorrow, with the three races run on Sunday.
