Teams notch up big wins in weekend action

The only games possible in Kotahitanga Fastpitch Competition club softball on Saturday were played in Papakura with Fairfield OU men and Melville women managing wins.

Fairfield OU comfortably beat Manurewa Mets 11-1, scoring three runs in their first turn at bat and then going on the rampage with the bat in the second inning with seven runs - three on a home run by Dean Everson.

The winners got their 11th run in the third inning, picking up a total of seven hits in the game.

The Mets picked up two hits, their only run scored in the fourth inning, a hit by shortstop Nathan Petera bringing home Adam Chwesik.

In the women's competition Melville beat Manurewa Mets 12-3, while in a game played midweek Southnet beat Marlinz 20-6 at Resthills Park, Hamilton.

The Marlinz v Southnet men's game will have to be rescheduled along with the Rocketz v Takanini game.
