Melville continued to set the pace in the Kotahitanga Fastpitch Competition women's division at the weekend as well as booking a place in the Waikato pre-Christmas final.
Melville thumped Marlinz 16-0 in four innings at Resthills Park on Saturday.
The KFC playoffs will start at Counties Manukau on February 2 with semifinals and finals in Hamilton on February 9, while the Waikato Softball Association finals this Saturday will feature Melville in the 1pm final against the winner of the Southnet v Marlinz semifinal at 11am. Melville on Saturday scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, seven in the third and three in the fourth from a total of 10 hits, led by Stephanie Roy and Liz Correct with two each. Their pitcher was Waikato under-15 rep Casey Downs, who faced 14 batters over the four innings and took two strikeouts while giving up one walk and three hits. Marlinz got three safe hits, with the best being a triple from Charmaine Taylor in the fourth.
Fairfield OU are top of the KFC men's competition table and will play Southnet in the men's semifinals this Saturday at 11am, with the winners meeting Marlinz in the 3pm final.
On Saturday, Fairfield OU downed Takanini 9-2, led by the batting of Jason Sklenars with three hits.
