A review of the quality of food served up by Montana Catering at Waikato Stadium events is underway after a raft of complaints following the Nitro Circus event on Waitangi Day.

Hamilton City Council is conducting the review after Carley Taylor, of Ngaruawahia, complained to the Times the event was tainted by a $75 bill for ''overcooked and unpleasant food''.

Mrs Taylor says it was far too much money to pay for below-quality food, in her case five rock-hard hot dogs, five punnets of dry chips and five small colas.

''Being a family of five and on a modest income we felt extorted,'' she said.

The complaint prompted similar complaints on the Waikato Times Facebook page,  leading to the council's review.

Waikato Stadium will face its next big catering test this Saturday when the Warriors play the Penrith Panthers.
