Waikato FC will get a welcome respite from Premiership football when they meet the Wellington Phoenix A side in Ngaruawahia tomorrow night.
Mark Cossey's side has fallen into a seven-match losing streak that needs to end on Sunday when they host Otago United in Hamilton or risk the possibility of finishing bottom of the league.
But Cossey will have an opportunity to make tweaks when they meet the visitors at Centennial Park at 5.45pm.
His hands are chiefly tied.
The lack of numbers available has proved to be a growing handicap since Cossey took over from Declan Edge late last year.
But a few tactical and positional alterations could help halt the slump.
The Phoenix A side also have plenty to play for after Sunday's loss to the Brisbane Roar left the top team at the bottom of the A-League.
The A team has only won two of their six matches against A-League teams this season in the midweek encounters.
But they should prove decent opposition that may feature the likes of Luke Rowe, Alex Smith, Cameron Lindsay, Michael Boxall and Benjamin Totori.
