It seems the Log ‘o Wood just doesn’t want to leave the mighty Waikato.
Otago’s flight from Hamilton back down south with the Ranfurly Shield - won off the Mooloos at Waikato Stadium last night - was cancelled this morning due to fog.
A message posted on Otago Rugby’s Facebook page broke the news to their southern supporters.
‘‘For all of those planning on meeting the guys at the Airport to celebrate their Historic Shield win, The Flight from Hamilton has been cancelled due to fog,’’ it said.
‘‘The boys will now bus to Auckland to catch a flight from there.
‘‘They are now scheduled to arrive at Dunedin Airport at 4pm.
"Please tell all of your friends and family who were planning on heading to greet them.’’
But perhaps Otago better not get used to having the Shield around for too long, with Waikato Rugby’s media man Hamish Forsman providing us with a silver lining.
Ok so if Hawke's Bay take the shield off Otago, then lose it to Counties, who then defend it vs Taranaki, Waikato will get another shot!
