It's not just holidaymakers relishing the hot weather - Seddon Park turf manager Andy Brown couldn't be happier either.

The recent sunny spell has provided Brown with perfect conditions to prepare the wicket for the third and final cricket test between New Zealand and the West Indies starting in Hamilton tomorrow.

"This sort of heat and sun is just what we wanted," Brown said after going over the test pitch with a roller yesterday.

"We're able to control the moisture content with watering, but you can't beat a number of hot sunny days for preparation."

That's been a bonus for Brown, the man in charge of the wicket for the first time. Brown is normally second in command to Karl Johnson, who is in Dubai on a year-long contract working at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

Brown said he's had a few discussions with his regular boss over the preparation "but he's pretty much just let me get on with it".

He's expecting the wicket and conditions to offer some assistance to swing and seam bowlers tomorrow before becoming an excellent batting track.

New Zealand Cricket will be hoping the West Indies perform better than they did in the second test in Wellington, which saw the Black Caps triumph within three days.

That meant no play on Saturday or Sunday, when NZC would have been expecting to garner revenue from larger crowds. Tickets for the five-day match are available through Ticketek.
