Marlinz went on a hitting spree to down Fairfield OU 16-5 in Waikato premier men's softball in Hamilton on Saturday.
The winners, led with both bat and on the pitching mound by standout player Te Ate Walker, collected 14 safe hits to Fairfield's six in the match and scored runs in six of the seven innings, finishing with five runs in their final turn at bat.
Fairfield's purple patch came in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored four of their five runs.
Best of the Marlinz Batters was Walker with five hits from five turns at bat.
Rene Martin and David Upoko both got two hits and Brendon Rogers got the only automatic home run of the game in the seventh inning.
Jason Duncan was Fairfield's best batter with three hits - two of them doubles.
On the mound for Marlinz Walker faced 25 batters, taking 14 strikeouts and giving up three hits, three walks and one run over six innings. Wesley Sinnott faced eight batters over one inning, taking one strikeout and giving up one walk, three hits and four runs.
For Fairfield OU Dean Everson faced 23 batters over four innings, taking one strikeout and conceding three walks, eight hits and eight runs, while Brendon Neha faced 20 batters over three innings, taking one strikeout and giving up one walk, six hits and eight runs.
