Extra staff will be at Waikato Stadium tomorrow to cope with crowds eager to get their hands on Super Rugby final tickets.

The move comes after thousands of Chiefs season members faced a nervous wait for their finals tickets yesterday after overloading of the Ticket Direct website.

"There will be extra staff manning the ticket booths on Wednesday to cope with demand," Hamilton City City Council Mayor Julie Hardaker told the Waikato Times.

Season members got their chance for tickets from midday yesterday and the system struggled to cope. By 6pm last night 6500 tickets had been sold to season members and corporate sponsors.

The Chiefs have 2400 season members, and all are eligible to re-activate their own seat, and buy 10 extra tickets.

That offer closes at midnight tonight, then remaining tickets go on sale to the public.

Franchise boss Gary Dawson said there had been a huge amount of interest already in the game, and it was likely not even the rain would put people off lining up early.

Tickets go on sale to the public at 8am tomorrow, but it is not known at this stage how many tickets will be available.

Season member Natalie Buck said she spent a few nervous hours online at her desk at work and by late yesterday afternoon had her hands on her ticket, plus 10 others for friends.

"I am very popular among my mates at the moment," she said.

"I have been a season member for the past 10 years now and this is the greatest thing to have happened to me and to the Chiefs, and I can't wait to be there on Saturday night."

Chiefs fans from as far away as Perth and the Gold Coast have told the Times they are planning to fly in for the game.

Hamilton ex-pat Daniel Taiapa, now living on the Gold Coast, said he was so sure the Chiefs would make the final he booked his flight home two months ago.

"We are overwhelmed with the result and are now desperate to secure tickets . . . We hope and pray there are tickets available for us on sale on Wednesday as we can only imagine the massive response from the locals in Hamilton."

The stadium has a capacity of 25,000.
