It could be risky but consensus from the form expects Racing Times canvassed ahead of tomorrow's terminating $250,000 Pick6 at Te Rapa is that Walter's Royal is a possible anchor in the first leg.
Racing Times' Trackspy, ''Matamata Maestro'' Ross Fisher and Neil Davis, who operates tipping website formpro.co.nz, have all plumped for Taranaki galloper Walter's Royal as the best anchor prospect for the lucrative Pick6 pool.
Fisher, who operates an 0900 tipping phoneline, said even fields for tomorrow's Pick6 would dictate a wider spread for most punters and Pick6 syndicates.
''They are pretty open but in one, I'd go for Walter's Royal in the first leg,'' he said.
''It's hard to anchor in first leg but I would anchor Walter's Royal in one combo. He drops 2.5kg, just got nutted by an in-form runner last week, goes from a better draw this weekend and stepping up to 1600m should be more to his liking.''
Fisher suggested Phar Cry in the second leg and Exakt in leg five as impressive last-start winners with solid claims tomorrow.
Davis, whose formpro.co.nz website sponsors Racing Times' weekly Pic from the Past competition, said Walter's Royal stood out as the best anchor prospect as the other five legs were all so even.
''I'd go for Walter's Royal in the first leg. It's his fourth run this time in, he's back up to 1600m and he drops significantly in weight, though he is just 1kg more above the minimum,'' Davis said.
As tomorrow's Pick6 is terminating, the pool can be struck by a percentage bet and if no ticket selects six winners, the pool will be distributed among holders of tickets with the most winners, meaning those who go out in the first leg can still win Pick6 if they get the next five legs and nobody else strikes all six winners.
