An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter Scale has rattled remote Ndoi, south east of Fiji.
The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 1.52pm New Zealand time and was 551 kilometres deep.
The area is a highly active seismic zone and among the world’s deepest ocean areas.
The closest city to the epicentre is the Tongan capital of Nuku’alofa, 364 kilometres to the east.
No reports of injuries have been received yet.
