Two in court over seven-hour 'rape'
Two men accused of raping and attempting to murder an Australian woman during a seven-hour ordeal in Scotland have faced court.
Michal Marchlewski, 20, and Tomasz Kryczyk, 26, made no plea during the brief appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
The two men, both from Edinburgh, were remanded in custody to reappear on February 25.
The 24-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was attacked as she walked through a subway underpass near a busy supermarket in Edinburgh on Monday afternoon.
Police claim she was sprayed in the face with a noxious substance and dragged to nearby undergrowth, where she was subjected to a protracted sexual assault lasting about seven hours in a makeshift shelter.
The area where the alleged attack occurred, the Telfer subway, is regularly used by pedestrians in west central Edinburgh.
