IT MUST BE LOVE: The proposal captured in thermal imaging by London police.

A London couple whose romantic gesture was spotted by a police helicopter have became an online viral hit - but who are they?

Late at night on the weekend one of the pair spelt out "Will you marry me?" in candles on Gladstone Park.

A London Metropolitan Police helicopter spotted the sign and used thermal imaging to capture the proposer on one knee in front of the proposee.

The police then Tweeted the pictures, commenting "We think we have just seen the most romantic guy in north London" and asking if anyone knew who they were.

They soon got an answer – sort of – when an anonymous Twitter account sprung up, with a photo of the happy couple embracing among the candles.

They Tweeted to the police "She said yes!!!"

"The happy couple like to remain anonymous. They wanted to share the good news with @MPSinthesky and end the suspense with a happy ending."

But with international media taking an interest, they may not stay anonymous for long.
