'Tragic' tale of broken bottles of beer
It's not something you would wish for any young man who's about to head off for a good night on New Year's Eve.
What was supposed to be a few drinks with the lads turned 'tragic' for a young man in Sydney, Australia who dropped his case of beer on the street, seconds after the liquor shop closed.
According to the Daily Mail Australia report, a series of photos captured by a passerby shows the man squatting on Enmore Rd in Sydney looking totally devastated as he assesses the damage.
As he realises the glass bottles are not salvageable, you can actually see him get visibly upset.
"The more broken six packs he pulled out, the sadder he became," Tayon McCafferty, who snapped the moment on his phone, told Daily Mail Australia.
McCafferty had just purchased his own beer and was standing outside the Queen Victoria Hotel in Enmore just after 10pm on Thursday when he noticed the man.
"He had bought a case and when he walked out of the bottle shop, they locked the door behind him," he said.
"He then took a couple of steps and he tried to re-position the case, dropping it."
The man then squats in despair, amidst beer spilling down the street, and buries his head in his hands before picking up the broken glass remnants.
"My first thought was, how is he going to explain this to his mates? My second thought was, Reddit is going to love this," McCafferty said.
After sharing the series of photos to Reddit, many were quick to share their condolences with the young man
"Poor guy, I want to buy him a card or something," one concerned person shared.
"This is the adult version of a kid licking an ice cream and then having it fall from the cone," another observed.
To make matters worse, takeaway alcohol is not sold after 10pm from bottle shops, hotels and clubs in New South Wales, the report says.
