A base jumper has come off second best after smacking into a cliff face at high speed.

Thayer Healey was attempting to dive off "Wall Street" in Ohio, United States, when his parachute malfunctioned, sending him flying into the hard rock wall.

From there it was a downward spiral before a dazed Healey thudded into the ground.

The fall left the jumper with multiple injuries but lucky to be alive.

"Compression Fracture of the T12 Vertebra, 5 stitches to the eye, 6 stitches to the chin, severely sprained Back, wrist and hand. multiple bruised areas," Healey wrote in the video's description field.

He was discharged from hospital after just one day, summing it up well on his Facebook page: "I really lucked out on that one."
