A 6.1-magnitude quake has struck off the coast of Chile.

The quake occurred at 8.54am (NZT) 22km W of Iquique - the same area as a massive 8.2 magnitude quake in April which killed six people and triggered a tsunami with two metre waves.

It was centred at a depth of 35.7km.
