A strong 6.1 earthquake struck Chile’s central region, but authorities said no injuries or damage were reported.

The US Geological Survey said the quake’s epicentre was 54km south-west of San Antonio and struck Wednesday at 4.36pm local time (NZT 8.36am Thursday).

The quake shook Chile’s capital of Santiago, causing office buildings to sway.
