An American man says he was so afraid off his wife that he was forced to fake his own kidnapping so he could go out and party.

Rogelio Andaverd, from Texas, got his friends - wearing masks and toting guns - to break into his home while his wife was there and snatch him away, the San Antonio Express-New reported.

The panicked wife called the police who kicked off a neighbourhood-wide hunt for Andaverdes. Police reportedly grew suspicious when they couldn't find any leads. Then Andaverde turned up.

He told his wife that his kidnappers showed mercy and set him free. But later he confessed to making the kidnapping up so he could go out on the town with his buddies.

He also reportedly said he was afraid of his wife.

"We have people file false reports all the time, and we put them in jail for it," Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe Trevino told The Monitor. "But I've never had someone do it just to get out of the house."
