The 21st century selfie obsession has reached a new low after a woman was caught snapping a selfie with a suicidal man in the background.

A group of about 30 people watched as police tried to coax a man down from the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, when one blond woman, thought to be a tourist, pulled out her cellphone and turned her back on the drama.

Some people may have been mistaken for thinking it was all a bit too much for her - until she smiled, posed and snapped a pic of herself.

The New York Post featured the woman on its front page but were unable to get her name as she became camera shy when approached by one of its reporters.

The Daily Mail quoted a witness as saying she had been watching the drama unfold for 25 minutes before she took the picture. "Everyone knew what was going on - there were boats, helicopters," the witness said.

Police eventually saved the man's life - talking him down from the bridge.

But the furore over the selfie has just begun, with New York magazine asking whether it is the world's worst.

It's hard to imagine a more tasteless time for a selfie but the people on this page try their best.

Some truly awful pics include people snapping themselves with their dead grandmothers, burning houses and Auschwitz gas chambers in the background.

If that's not morbid enough then there is an entire page dedicated to funeral selfies.
