The American public are even less impressed with their new president now that he's taken office.

A daily Gallup survey showed US President Donald Trump's approval rating dropped to 37 per cent as of Saturday, while the portion of those who disapproved of him rose to 58 per cent.

Both the approval and disapproval marks were at 45 per cent on January 22, Trump's third day in office, according to the poll, while a few days before his inauguration his approval rating stood at 40 per cent.

Trump has dismissed the latest ratings drop as "fake news".
