CCTV footage shows the terrifying moment an aquarium wall exploded, injuring people, killing fish and turtles and flooding a shopping mall.

Three lemon sharks and dozens of smaller fish and turtles died when the 15cm glass burst at a Shanghai mall in the lead-up to Christmas.

Up to 16 people were reported to have been injured, eight of them receiving deep cuts and bruises.

Investigators have said a combination of low temperatures and weak materials caused the glass to shatter.

A police spokesperson said some of the serious injuries were due to the thickness of the glass.
